Setting the tone with Slewfoot which I had never heard before was nice! That Casey Jones is the most unique I've heard in a long time. The Dark Star jam took me there like it does every time they have a natural energy that cannot be recreated. oh and those fucking drums!!!!!!!

The first 10 songs in the first set were full of references to the South, and the band could’ve easily been mistaken for a typical southern rock or country band. Then, things started to get more trippy, more psychedelic, and more uniquely Dead-ish.

One of my fave Jack Straws, and then into Franklins, to boot! . Great start to the show. Those May- June ‘80 Altheas were the best. Song was peaking at that time. Stellar version here, almost up there with Nassau. Almost went, there were a couple of independent hippie bus charters leaving Spokane or Seattle, but two straight days of non stop driving. Saw flyers for them in Boulder weeks earlier at the anniversary shows . Wasn’t going to drive it myself , would have been 3 days up, 3 days there, three days back. Besides, I would have gotten fired from work. A couple of friends flew out of Seattle, most reasonable way if you had the bucks.

I absolutely love the way they drop out of The Other One into Me and My Uncle then charge right back in. Mind bending. I think they did that once or twice or thrice more (who knows, I’m sure someone other than me knows).
